‘Broiler’ chickens, or chickens reared for meat, continue to suffer appalling conditions on farms all over the UK. This video and the accompanying factsheet The suffering of ‘broiler’ chickens reveal just some of the misery they must endure everyday to meet Britain’s growing demand for chicken meat.

The footage was filmed in March 2013 at three farms owned by members of the National Farmers Union Poultry Board: P D Hook Ltd, Galley Hill Farm and Uphouse Farm.

We regret to report that Animal Aid’s powerful new film revealing the lethal nature of the Grand National race and the reasons why it kills so many horses, has been withdrawn from Youtube. This is as a result of a copyright infringement claim by RacingUK. The 7-minute film is intended to promote public debate about the morality of the 4-and-a-half mile event that routinely kills one or more of the 40 horses who take part. In 2011, Ornais broke his neck and Dooneys Gate broke his back. A total of 20 horses have died as a result of racing on the Grand National course since 2000. Our campaign to ban the Grand National will continue with full vigour, despite this setback.

The Grand National – the world’s most demanding horse race – is notorious for the consistency with which it kills and injures horses. A dangerously overcrowded field of 40 horses is forced to confront 30 extraordinarily challenging and treacherous jumps, over a course of four-and-a-half miles. Despite numerous changes to the course and conditions of the race over the past 50 years, 35 horses are known to have lost their lives, while many others have been injured. Animal Aid has, for many years, called for the Grand National to be banned.
