The Animals Film - 25 years on - seminal documentary issued on DVD
Posted 9 August 2007
Twenty-five years after it first caused huge shockwaves, The Animals Film – Victor Schonfeld’s feature documentary that explored our relationship with, and exploitation of, animals – is available on DVD .
Narrated by Academy Award-winner Julie Christie, the film was premiered in 1982 at the London Film Festival, played in cinemas across three continents and was broadcast during Channel 4’s first week on air. It had an enormous impact on many people who saw, for the first time, the ways in which animals are exploited and killed for food, fur, sport and science. It created a generation of animal rights activists and has been cited as the ‘turning point’ for many.
The film’s ending for the 2007 edition has been changed to an energising, positive call for action, for viewers to become campaigners on animal issues and to become vegetarian.
