MINNOKUBES - Help stop the new craze
Posted 1 December 2002
Remember our recent success in stopping 'Aquababies' - fish contained in tiny perspex containers - from being sold in shopping centres? A magistrates' court ruled that their sale was illegal under the 1951 Pet Animals Act, on the grounds that a shopping centre was deemed a 'public place'.
Now your help is needed to oppose a similarly cruel product. 'Minnokubes' contain two White Cloud Mountain Minnows in an 18cm by 14cm cube. They are sold through mail order companies - hence avoiding the need for licensing.
Suppliers claim that they are 'a calming and fascinating addition to any home or office', and a 'great present idea'. Care instructions suggest feeding once every 2-3 days with a wet tooth pick; replacing half the water every month; and doing a full clean out only every 3 months. It is even suggested that Minnokubes can be stacked on top of each other.
