Be Green Go Vegan
One of the simplest and most effective ways to live a greener life is to choose vegan foods. Animal farming is responsible for 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions - more than the total generated worldwide by planes, cars and all other forms of transport. So a vegan driving a 4x4 actually does less damage to the planet than a meat-eater on a bicycle! Producing meat and dairy is also extremely inefficient when it comes to the amount of land and water needed. 70% of all agricultural land in industrialised countries is used to produce food for farmed animals, whereas a varied vegan diet requires only one fifth of the land needed for a typical European omnivorous diet. Even the most efficient form of animal agriculture uses far more water per kilogram of food produced than the most water-intensive plant crop. If you are serious about reducing your impact on the planet, go vegan. With so many meat- and dairy-free alternatives available in high street shops and supermarkets, it has never been easier.
