Victory for the seals!

The end to the Canadian seal cull moved a step closed on May 5th 2009, when MEPs (Members of European Parliament) voted overwhelmingly to ban trading in all seal products. The trade will be stopped in 2010.

This means that national bans on commercial trading in seal products will exist in 57 countries worldwide including the US and all the 27 countries of the EU. Europe’s fur markets are the biggest buyers of Canada’s seal pelts, so it should be a huge blow to the Canadian seal hunt!

A big thank you to all of you who wrote and emailed your MEPs and other politicians – it has worked! But it’s not over yet. Please continue to lobby the Canadian Government to end the seal cull.
