Manchester vegan campaigner doesn't take no for an answer

We first met Jordan last year on Animal Aid’s 30th anniversary tour. He’s recently been in touch, volunteering to talk to local media for Veggie Month. Jordan says he “went vegetarian at 9 after watching a video of inside a slaughterhouse, and then as I got more and more clued up about the issues, I decided I had to go vegan. Which I did, at 11. I'm 14 now, and I've never looked back on my decision, indeed, I regard it as one of the best I've ever made! Activism-wise, I do stalls and protests with my local group when I can, and endeavour to attend national marches when possible.”

Jordan is also taken on some rescued animals. He currently has 18 chickens! “Originally I had 26, RIP, although I'm looking to get more hens, and potentially some rescue pigs too. In all honesty, there's no nonhuman that I don't want to care for, but resources and space restricts me, for now. In the future, I definitely want to extend my little haven for other species and individuals. I've tried many times to help out at animal sanctuaries, but my age has been a factor that's worked against me, however, the repeated turn downs by shelters and the like are what inspired me to take care of animals myself, so perhaps, retrospectively, it wasn't such a bad thing. I'm all for the DIY ethic!”

“I don't believe in social constructs such as 'race', 'class' or 'gender' and seek to see them dismantled. Essentially, I actively oppose all forms of oppression and do whatever I can to advance progress to an egalitarian society, promoting equality for all sentient beings.”

Jordan is part of Manchester Animal Protection, one of Animal Aid’s local contact groups. If you’d like to be put in touch with like-minded peole in your area, please get in touch with one of our youth contacts below, or get in touch with Animal Aid and we can see if there’s a suitable local adult Animal Aid group.
