Raised laying cages exposed - June 24, 2014

Every year in Britain, around 50 million pheasants and partridges are reared for the shooting industry. Scores of thousands of 'game' birds, used to produce these feathered targets, are confined for the whole of their lives in raised laying cages. Caged pheasants suffer a high incidence of stress, feather-loss and back and head wounds. Many lunge repeatedly at their cage roofs in a forlorn attempt to escape.

The suffering experienced by these birds, whether confined for breeding purposes, or being fattened for the kill, cannot plausibly be justified.
