Are the cookery demonstrations free?

Yes, cookery demonstrations are free, and if students cook the dish after watching the demonstration, we will buy all the ingredients.

How long do the cookery demonstrations take?

Our sessions last 1–2 hours. The cookery demonstration takes 15–20 minutes, and students can then cook the dish themselves (we cover the cost of the ingredients). During the rest of the session students can discover more about veganism through engaging presentations, films, activities and discussions.

Can the students cook as well?

Yes, and we buy all the ingredients.

What dish do you demonstrate?

Speakers usually prepare a simple vegan chilli. You can watch this dish being demonstrated and download the recipe.

What age groups are the cookery demonstrations suitable for?

Our cookery demonstrations are suitable for students from Year 7 to sixth form.

What student activities are used during the sessions?

Our speakers use a range of activities, such as quizzes and Q&As, to involve the students in the session.

What films do you show during the session?

Speakers show age-appropriate films produced by us for use in schools. The films typically used are From farm to fork and/or Veganism with Carl and Rupert.

Can I see and approve the resources used by the speaker?

Yes, before the talk, copies of the lesson plan, PowerPoint presentations and films are submitted to the teacher for approval.

Can I see a sample lesson plan?

Yes, we will send you a suggested lesson plan for the session you are interested in.

Do you offer follow-up student activities?

We have a range of free lesson plans and resources that are ideal for use following a cookery demonstration and presentation on veganism.

Do you do online cookery demonstrations?

Yes, online demonstrations are available to schools in areas where we don’t have a demonstrator and also to overseas English-speaking schools.

Do you offer cookery demonstrations outside the UK?

Yes, online cookery demonstrations are available to overseas English-speaking schools.

Do your speakers have a DBS check?

All of our speakers have enhanced DBS certificates.

What qualifications do your speakers have?

Our speakers are not professional chefs; they are volunteers who have passed our cookery demonstration training course. All are knowledgeable and passionate about the issues and have experience working with school students. They are all trained to deal with the issues raised in a sensitive way and to encourage students to articulate their own views. All speakers have an enhanced DBS certificate.
