Anti-Shooting Day of Action in Winchester
Join Animal Aid for a vibrant day of action in Winchester to raise awareness about a very serious issue: the shooting of sentient birds for so-called ‘sport' and its devastating impact on our countryside and wildlife.
Why it matters:
Many people do not realise that the shooting industry releases up to 60 million pheasants and partridges in the UK each year, with many produced on industrial British ‘gamebird’ farms. But the cruelty doesn’t stop there: this practice harms biodiversity, pollutes land and waterways with toxic lead, and leads to the trapping and killing of countless wild animals.
Our recent report, Killing Our Countryside, launched by Animal Aid patron Chris Packham, exposes the full scale of this environmental and ethical crisis.
What’s happening?
We’ll meet outside Marks & Spencer before handing out leaflets, chatting with the public, and inviting people to sign our petition calling for a ban on the production, release and shooting of birds. Campaign materials will be provided, so just bring your energy and passion! Plus: Meet Phineas the giant pheasant! Our friendly mascot Phineas will be there to spark smiles and conversations. Don’t miss your chance to snap a photo with him!
We look forward to seeing you there and standing together against this cruelty.
