Snares must go: Help push the ban over the line
Wales and Scotland have already banned snares. So why the delay in England?
We need your help to push the government’s promised ban on snares over the line by writing to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Emma Reynolds MP).
The government’s promise to ban these cruel traps was a key part of the new Animal Welfare Strategy launched at the end of December 2025. However, we are still waiting for specific details of how and when the ban will actually become law.
The public support a ban, with a recent OnePoll survey showing that 73% of people agree that animals have the right to live free from persecution, such as trapping. In addition, almost 100 MPs have signed an Early Day Motion, calling on the government to ban the use of snares without delay.
We must do everything we can to make sure that the snares ban stays right at the top of the agenda for animals, and rid the countryside of these cruel, indiscriminate and archaic devices.
