Our vision is a world in which animals live free from harm and exploitation. We believe this can – and must – be achieved through powerful public engagement, political and legal action, and compassionate education.
Since 1977, through our campaigning and education work, we have led the way in driving change for animals, exposing cruelty, influencing policy, and shifting hearts and minds. Our work is evidence-led and fearless – and we are dedicated to creating a kinder world.
- Exposed widespread and illegal cruelty in UK slaughterhouses, leading to the introduction of compulsory CCTV in all English slaughterhouses.
- Launched a landmark exposé into the horse racing industry, which was featured on the BBC Panorama programme ‘The Dark Side of Horse Racing’.
- Played a central role in halting the University of Cambridge’s plans to build a vast primate testing facility.
- Produced the UK’s first anti-dairy advert – as part of our Terror on Our Tables campaign – to be shown on primetime television, including Channel 4 and Sky TV, and in cinemas nationwide.
- Won the prestigious Lush Prize in 2024 for our work to end lethal dose animal tests, particularly our creative public awareness campaigning.
- Landed the shooting industry with a £20 million unpaid tax bill through our detailed investigative work.
- Successfully campaigned for major supermarkets – including Asda, Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons, Iceland and Waitrose – to clearly label their own-brand vegan products with our #MarkItVegan campaign.
- Organised thousands of free educational talks and vegan cookery demonstrations in schools across the UK.
- Hosted the innovative Future of Science conference, which empowers students to pursue cruelty-free careers in science.
- Launched a successful government petition to ban snares, reaching over 100,000 signatures and triggering a parliamentary debate, which helped to secure bans in both Scotland and Wales.
- Partnered with XCellR8, the world’s only vegan laboratory, to replace the outdated and inhumane lethal dose 50 (LD50) test with modern, human-relevant alternatives.
- Persuaded venues, councils and event organisers nationwide to end the use of live animals in public displays and events.
- Launched the collaborative Votes for Animals initiative, which provides detailed breakdowns of each political party’s stance on animal protection issues. In 2024 we lobbied the Labour government to include an end to animal testing in their official manifesto.
