Animal Aid holds peaceful demo calling on the public to “listen” to the Terror on Our Tables

As part of our farming campaign’s Week of Action, Animal Aid were in London yesterday talking to the public about the routine suffering of cows within the dairy industry.
Our peaceful demo asked passersby to “please listen” while the haunting sounds of a dairy farm played out loud, including the monotonous sound of milking machines, hobbles (used to chain cows’ feet together) and the cries of a mother cow separated from her calf, mooing until her voice gives out...

We also included snippets of Animal Aid patron, Chris Packham, talking about his experience of visiting an all-indoor dairy unit – an experience that turned him fully vegan.
“Being in those places and seeing it…it is the smell, it’s looking at those animals in the face”, Chris says before asking “What is it about that ingrained cultural obsession with eating meat and consuming dairy products?”
Combined with our hard-hitting advert, displayed on a huge billboard opposite Burger King, this made for a powerful demonstration with over 500 leaflets handed out and positive interactions with the public, encouraging them to ‘Choose Compassion, Choose Vegan’ .
The reality of dairy production is deliberately hidden from public view, so that consumers will never question the terror they’re being served. That’s why events like yesterday are so important for getting the truth out there. Together, we can ensure that the exploitation of dairy cows and calves doesn’t go unchecked.
Yesterday, Michelle, our Head of Campaigns, headed into London to attend the debate on the government petition which urged ‘Ban immediately the use of dogs in scientific and regulatory procedures’.
