Use the below wording as a template for contacting reindeer events in your community!
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to you about your advertised display of live reindeer this year.
As a member of your community, I wish to advise you that I am deeply disappointed that you have chosen to exhibit live animals as props in this year’s event. Reindeer are herd animals who need the comfort and security of their herd to feel safe. Depriving them of this simply so that they can serve as props for an event is inexcusable cruelty.
There is extensive research available that demonstrates the harm caused to reindeer by displaying them at events. Evidence gathered from events like your own just last year demonstrated, when reviewed by an expert, that the vast majority of reindeer on display showed clear signs of distress – this is evidence that festive events are not an appropriate environment for animals like reindeer.
I am aware that you have already been sent a joint letter signed by 35 animal protection organisations and experts urging you to cancel you plans to display live reindeer and instead opt for cruelty-free entertainment – I am joining them in asking the same. There is a huge variety of modern, compassionate, engaging and fun entertainment options available to events. From high-tech installations such as virtual reality sleigh rides and animatronic reindeer to inclusive displays that can showcase the creativity and talent within our community, like sculpture trails and puppeteers, there is so much to choose from when it comes to curating a compassionate Christmas event.
I hope you take this constructive feedback on board and act appropriately.
