Imagine how it feels to be someone who instinctively only feels safe when surrounded by your herd, and how terrifying it must be to be separated from them, and exposed to huge crowds, bright lights, loud music, and often fireworks. It’s cruel, it’s exploitative, and it must stop.
This year we are taking enormous leaps forward in the fight to end live reindeer displays. We have once again teamed up with our colleagues at Freedom for Animals, OneKind, and Born Free Foundation, to put together a joint letter to send to events that have hired reindeer, urging them to plan animal-free entertainment this year. Once again, we have also invited other animal protection organisations and experts to sign on to the letter, and we have gained a record 35 signatures this year!
Our letter has already been sent out to dozens of events and will continue to be distributed to any events we find out about that are planning to exhibit live reindeer. This approach has proven hugely successful in previous years, with 35% of events that received it in 2023 choosing to go reindeer-free in 2024. Early results from 2025 are already proving promising, with two major events that had been displaying live reindeer for years choosing compassionate alternatives!
So how can you help?
Our 2025 campaign launches today, and there are multiple ways to get involved! Visit our Take Action page which contains everything you need to take a stand for reindeer this festive season, including:
- The full joint letter, signed by 35 organisations and experts
- Access to our interactive map, hosted by Freedom for Animals, showing the locations of all the reindeer events we know about
- Links to report a reindeer event – let us know if there’s an event planning to display live reindeer so we can contact them
- Links to order resources to distribute in your community
- Information on how to get involved with driving local council policy change against wild animal displays
No animal should suffer for entertainment – please join our campaign to extend comfort and joy to reindeer this festive season and beyond!
