Last week saw Animal Aid staff and supporters take to the streets to highlight our campaigns and to spread the message of compassion to all animals.
On Wednesday, we visited Winchester city centre with our adorable giant pheasant, named Phineas, to ask the public to sign our online petition against shooting. Many people do not know that the shooting industry releases up to 60 million pheasants and partridges in the UK each year, with many produced on huge, industrial farms. The release of millions of these birds puts a huge burden on wildlife, who must compete for food and resources. Toxic lead from gunshot pollutes the land and waterways, and millions of stoats, weasels, crows, rabbits and foxes, are trapped and killed in order to âprotectâ pheasants and partridges until the start of the shooting season.
We had an absolutely terrific response from people in Winchester â see our photos!
On Saturday, we were honoured to join the National Animal Rights March through the centre of London. We walked alongside many other groups, and activists to show our unified support for animal rights whilst giving out leaflets and stickers to the public in London.
It was a hugely uplifting day, which culminated in inspiring speeches from grassroots campaigners in Marble Arch â including activists from Animal Rising, who have been on trial for protesting against the notoriously cruel Grand National horse race.
