Killing Our Countryside: Chris Packham launches our new campaign to ban shooting

Our brand-new campaign ‘Killing our Countryside: It’s time to ban shooting’, which calls for a total ban on the production and “sport” shooting of live birds for entertainment, has been launched by Animal Aid patron, Chris Packham.

The cornerstone of Killing our Countryside is a detailed report that examines not only the horrific cruelty of so-called ‘game bird’ shooting, but also the devasting impact it has on our environment.

Every year, around 40-60 million non-native pheasants and partridges are released into the British countryside, trampling native plants and outcompeting wildlife for food. Toxic lead from gunshot pollutes the land and waterways, poisoning animals – all this devastation for the fleeting entertainment of a few wealthy gunowners.

Our new campaign builds on existing opposition to the shooting industry by bringing together the support of naturalists, animal lovers and those who are passionate about the environment. We need your help at every stage.

First, please order a FREE shooting information pack, which contains a copy of the new report, leaflets and a concise briefing sheet or alternatively download them here.

You can also raise awareness of the plight of pheasants and partridges, by buying one of our beautiful new t-shirts or tote bags, featuring artwork by the talented Nick Hayes.

Make sure you’re following us on social media: so many people are unaware of the shooting industry’s impact on the environment so we need your help to raise awareness.
