Save birds, ban shooting!

The shooting season is about to start but why is this cruelty allowed to continue?

In a couple of days, people who have paid a considerable amount of money will start shooting pheasants for “sport”. These innocent birds, who have been mass produced (often on industrial farms), will be flushed from hedgerows into the air, and face dying in agony.

This is because there’s no requirement for people to be able to shoot well before taking aim at the birds. For the millions who are turned out into the countryside, their deaths will be terrifying and often agonising, taking days to die from their injuries.

The majority of people are against this wanton bloodsport – and with the option available to shoot at clays instead, there is simply no reason to keep breeding birds only to use them as feathered targets.

It is also a pastime as irresponsible as it is cruel: with avian flu posing a serious threat to populations of wild birds, releasing millions of farmed pheasants into the countryside will only increase the risk of avian flu spreading.

Our anti-shooting week of action is drawing to an end – huge thanks to everyone who took part. We would like to keep up the pressure until the end of the shooting season on 1 February 2026 – and need as many of you as possible to get involved.

Take aim at this bloodsport by ordering free leaflets and signing our anti-shooting petition. You can also take a look at our anti-shooting merchandise, beautifully designed by our friend Nick Hayes.
