Racing’s carnage continues as two horses are killed at Wetherby

In the wake of six horse deaths at Cheltenham this month, the carnage has continued at racecourses up and down the country.
Two horses perished today at Wetherby Racecourse (29 March) with sickening scenes of four-year-old gelding, Pennington, breaking a leg, followed by a young mare, Isle Of Ewe, breaking her neck just three races later into the afternoon.
These deaths follow other fatalities at Huntingdon, Carlisle, Bangor-on-Dee and Ludlow. Ludlow saw two horses lose their lives in heart-rending circumstances.
A total of 16 horses have lost their lives racing in the space of 17 days in March (12 March to 29 March).
Says Animal Aid’s Horse Racing Consultant, Dene Stansall:
‘If ever there was an urgency to rid racing of its regulator then now is the time. It is of the utmost importance to send a message to the government that people who care about horses want action from them. Please sign the Animal Aid e-petition today.’
