Following Broadway Boy’s horrific fall in The Grand National – the racing industry’s silence was deafening

Posted on the 5th April 2025

The scenes that unfurled today at The Grand National were truly disturbing.

Broadway Boy and Celebre d’Allen, another horse who was pulled up during the race, are reported to be receiving further assessment and treatment. The jockey riding Celebre d’Allen (who collapsed) has been suspended for 10 days following an enquiry into whether he had ‘continued in the race when the horse appeared to have no more to give’.

This day of suffering concluded the cruel three-day meeting, which has now killed 66 horses since 2000. Willy De Houelle, just four years old, was killed on the first day of the meeting.
