This week (11th – 17th May) is National Vegetarian Week.
Ditching meat and fish is a great way to show that you care about animals, and want to reduce animal suffering. It’s also very good for the environment!
Animals on factory farms are some of the most abused animals on the planet. And, as Animal Aid’s investigations have shown, no matter where those animals are raised, they all face a terrifying and brutal death at the slaughterhouse.
However, animals are also harmed and suffer in the dairy and egg industries.
Harrison is a survivor of the dairy industry. Usually, male calves like him are shot at birth, or sent to veal farms. Luckily, he was saved and now lives at an animal sanctuary where he gets to live his life free from harm.
Trudy is an ex-laying hen who also lives at an animal sanctuary. As her productivity had fallen, also known as becoming ‘spent’, she and others were due to be slaughtered. Thankfully she was saved and will now live her life in peace.
Trudy and Harrison both live at the The Retreat Animal Rescue.
By ditching meat, dairy, eggs and other animal products, you will be reducing the demand for these products and removing your support for the horrendous practices involved in producing them.
Going vegan has never been easier! You will find vegan alternatives to literally everything in every supermarket and many other shops, and Animal Aid has an amazing selection of recipes on our website.
