West Essex Golf Club urged not to cull Canada geese

Animal Aid has reached out to West Essex Golf Club following media reports of plans to shoot Canada geese on the property.

Update: West Essex Golf Club have now been in touch with Animal Aid regarding potentially meeting to discuss the use of humane deterrence in more detail.

This cull is reportedly due to the bird’s droppings proving a nuisance. It is reported that five gunmen are to be hired to shoot up to 20 birds per night.

The plans have drawn criticism from local residents and club members. In a letter to the Secretary of West Essex Golf Club, we have suggested multiple humane deterrence methods which have been proven effective. These measures will discourage the geese from visiting the golf course without inflicting harm on them.
