The Law Commission has been tasked with setting out a proposal to modernise and amalgamate all the laws relating to wildlife. It has produced a lengthy consultation paper, which sets out a series of propositions, some of which are very positive, such as the introduction of a Law of Vicarious Liability (making landowners responsible for the crimes committed by their gamekeepers). Others, such as the proposal that government officials should be allowed to force entry onto land to kill non-native species, are shockingly retrograde.
The consultation is open to the public and relates to England and Wales. It can be seen here:Â http://lawcommission.justice.gov.uk/docs/LCCP206_Wildlife_law_consultation_paper_for_web.pdf.
The consultation closes on November 30th.
